Terese Messman is excited about helping SLPA members overcome blocks that can prevent them from sharing their message with the world.
Follow in your parents’ footsteps. Fulfill your role. Play it safe. This is how Messman was taught to find happiness. She was expected to go to college to find a husband and raise a family. But something within her said, “I want more.”
To pay back student loans, Messman sought corporate sales work, interviewed with some big companies, and was repeatedly told, “You are not a fit.” After months of fruitless effort, she answered an ad from an unheard-of microcomputer company named after … a fruit: She became one of the first 500 members of the international Apple Computer sales team.
She was terrified. “What if I make a fool of myself in meetings, or when giving a presentation? What if the men in my team figure out that I wasn’t qualified?” She spent hours worrying, praying, and forcing herself to go to work each day.
It took months to find her voice and confidence in that job. It was the beginning of years of ups and downs, achievement and failure, and finally, the breakthrough realization that she only needed confirmation from one reliable source.
On October 9, learn about how Messman moved from “shrinking” to “soaring.” She will provide “how-to’s” for overcoming the blocks that try to keep you from sharing your message with the world. She’ll help with what we all desire: a published book with our unique message, and an affordable path to getting it to a broad audience. Be prepared to discipline thought, embrace a mindset-reset, and soar into an adventure of new and rewarding territory.
